Once "Fire Hawk" was safely delivered to the yard in Falmouth we started with a close inspection and drew up a jobs list. She was still licensed to carry passengers in Southern Ireland but we needed to update to UK coding if we wanted to continue working her so we contacted the local office and got another jobs list from the surveyor. We decided to make a start by overhauling the generator and progressed to the engines, wiring and taking out the obsolete pipework which left us some holes to patch in the upperworks. The steering gear was seized up and a replacement davit had to be fabricated using the remaining one as a pattern, this was also seized up and needed considerable heat to free it up. The aft deck posed some problems and we effected some temporoary repairs so that we could get the boat afloat. We cut out the old moon pools from her Brigade days and re-vamped the hatches although we realised we needed to make a long term rebuild of the aft deck area at a later date. There were a hundred other jobs to get her ready for the sea trials off Falmouth but everyone was delighted with her performance when we finally got to play with her.
